Field Aviation has been awarded a second contract to supply its Flight Deck Modernization, P880 Weather Radar Upgrade and Air Operable Door STC kits for the second Dash 8 aircraft to join the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights aerial demonstration team. The first Dash 8 Series 300 aircraft joined their fleet in 2017 and also had these Field Aviation STCs installed.

Both Dash 8 aircraft are modified extensively to meet the specific needs of the Golden Knights. The Field Aviation modifications include its Dash 8 Flight Deck Modernization STC which improves pilots’ navigation and situational awareness by removing over 30 individual electromechanical and electronic flight and engine instruments, and combining this information on five Universal Avionics EFI-890R flat panel integrated smart displays. This system has previously been incorporated on multiple aircraft for airline and special mission operators worldwide.

Field Aviation’s STC for the Honeywell Primus 880 Weather Radar upgrades the factory-installed legacy Primus 800 system on these and many other Dash 8 aircraft. This STC brings the system in line with current standards and ensures its long term viability since many of the legacy system components are becoming obsolete. This weather information gets integrated into the EFI-890R displays.

The Field Aviation Dash 8 Air Operable Door (AOD) STC modifies the aircraft to allow the existing 50” (1.27m) wide by 60” (1.52m) high inward-opening OEM cargo door to be opened in flight, making it ideal for the egress of the professional Golden Knights aerial demonstration team.

“Our modifications on these two Dash 8 aircraft aid the Golden Knights team in safely flying and exiting the aircraft,” stated Rob Baseggio, Field Aviation’s VP of Business Development. “We are very pleased that we can contribute to the professionalism of this team and to the execution of their mission as United States Army ambassadors of the sky.”
